THE VOLCANO POKEMON (x)
now something about the original three starters.
I always picked charmander. Always. Because when I was 10, I got a pokedex for christmas. I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen - it was the original 150 pokemon too. Anyway, the first thing i did when i played Pokemon Blue (that’s right folks, I played Generation I) was choose charmander. Why? because Blastoise and Venusaur are ugly as all hell. I mean, some giant turtle and a flower? why would you even pick that?
In the mind of the 10 year old boy, the only way to go is Charizard, because it looks awesome. It’s a red dragon that flies and breathes fire. And there was something so satisfying about beating Brock using only a Mankey and “Scratch”. It made things hard but that was what made it good.
I really think that nothing could ever beat Generation I, except maybe Generation III. Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald were fantastic and made pokemon so much better. Sure, you were catching ‘em all, but there was heaps to do on the side. You could build secret bases, follow this complex story arc and compete in Kanto’s Got Talent or whatever that thing was.
Also, I’m of the opinion that they should have stopped introducing pokemon after Generation III. Everything afterwards is just stupid. They’ve run out of real animals, for god’s sake. Also the sprites are just like what, a blob with a face? I get no satisfaction from them.
pokerant over.
